Gangway net rigging requirements at Napier Port

There have been a number of instances recently where container vessels have not rigged gangway nets adequately on arrival at Napier Port. Please be advised that container vessels at Napier Port must have a SHIP to SHORE rigged gangway net. These nets are critical for the safety of stevedoring personnel when accessing or egressing a container vessel being worked.

To reinforce these requirements, the Captain of every container vessel berthing at Napier Port is presented with gangway net rigging requirements as part of the passage plan when the vessel is boarded by the pilot.

Please reinforce this requirement with container vessels to ensure no loss of operational time while gangway nets are re-rigged to provide a safe means of access or egress for stevedoring personnel.

Thank you for your cooperation.
