We can confirm that at approximately 8pm last night, an incident occurred on log vessel, Nord Yilan, berthed at Napier Port.
The incident involved staff from stevedoring company, ISO, who are employed by log exporter, Ernslaw One.
Emergency services responded to the incident and some ISO staff were hospitalised.
Regulator, Maritime New Zealand, came on-site following the incident and has started an investigation.
Napier Port Culture and Capability Manager, Viv Bull says, at this time, our thoughts are with the people involved.
“We are disappointed that an incident has happened on our port.As the landowner, Napier Port takes a strong interest in the safe practice of companies operating on our site.”
If you would like further information, we advise speaking directly to ISO, Ernslaw One or Maritime New Zealand.
