Napier Port, located in Napier, Hawke’s Bay, is New Zealand’s fourth-largest port, providing a range of marine, handling, and logistical services. Our Warehousing Operations Team plays a vital role in maintaining operational excellence.

We have an opportunity for a Forklift Driver to join the Warehousing team.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor Warehousing, day-to-day, you’ll be busy working on:

• Safely operating forklifts and other materials‑handling equipment within the port and warehousing environment
• Loading, unloading, stacking, and movement of cargo, and palletised freight
• Supporting truck operations to ensure efficient cargo flow
• Completing pre‑start checks and basic equipment care, reporting faults promptly
• Accurately recording movements and completing required documentation and system entries
• Working collaboratively with, logistics, and warehousing teams to meet operational deadlines
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping at all times.

To be successful in this role you will need:

• A great attitude
• A full Class 1 drivers’ licence with F endorsement
• Current OSH certificate 
• A class 5 driver licence would be advantageous

As a casual mooring Lines Handler, you will play a vital role in the marine team. Assisting in the mooring operations of ships docking at our port as well as at times assisting with ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of pilots to and from vessels. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment. 

Key priorities of the role are: 

• Assist in mooring operations for incoming and outgoing vessels. 
• Assist onboard the pilot boat to safely transfer pilots to and from ships under the direction of the Launch master.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the pilot boat and mooring areas.
• Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are followed diligently.
• Participate in training sessions and safety drills as required.

What we are seeking: 

• Previous experience in a maritime environment is preferred but not necessary.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A practical understanding of safety standards and protocols.

We run a 24/7 operation so Availability for flexible hours, including weekends and holidays is essential.

Successful candidates will have the ability to communicate effectively, will be a team player and have a strong customer focus. They must have a proven record of reliability, a positive work ethic and attitude.

This role is ideal for a Class 5 Truck Driver who’s ready to hit the ground running. Provisional start dates are from 26 September 2026. You will step into an innovation-focused operation. You’ll be ensuring seamless integration of services and helping keep our operations running smoothly and efficiently.

• Minimum 24 hours guaranteed per week 
• 12-week fixed term contract, with multiple opportunities available 
• Work in a 24/7 shift environment (including nights and weekends) 
• You must have current Class 5 license
• You must be eligible to work in New Zealand

ROLE INTRO/RESPONSIBILITIES 

In this role, you’ll take on a range of responsibilities that are key to our project success, working as part of a team committed to safe and efficient operations.

Reporting into the Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for:

• Transporting containers within the container terminal and between Napier Port and off-site locations (including Thames Street Depot) as required
• Participating in the phased introduction of autonomous truck operations including:
  • driving the trucks in person, 
  • in cab supervision of the truck while its drives autonomously
  • remotely supervising the truck while it drives autonomously
• Operating in accordance with Napier Port’s Just Safety Culture
• Delivering services in line with customer and product care standards
• Adhering to all operational procedures and safety requirements

ABOUT YOU:

You are a reliable and safety-focused driver who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment and who:

• Holds a current Class 5 Driver License (essential)
• Is experienced in operating truck and trailer units
• Has an excellent work ethic 
• Has a reasonable level of physical fitness to meet the demands of the role 
• Is reliable
• Follows instructions and works safely within defined processes
• Is adaptable and flexible to work within a 24/7 operation across a range of shifts

About the role

Reporting day-to-day to the Electrical Services Manager, this hands-on role supports the delivery of electrical maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response and preventative maintenance across the Port’s industrial electrical infrastructure. You’ll work as part of the Infrastructure Services team alongside engineering, electrical and maintenance specialists, while also liaising with external contractors and key teams across the Port.

What you’ll be doing

• Carrying out industrial electrical fault finding, breakdown repairs and troubleshooting.
• Completing preventative maintenance and monitoring of electrical infrastructure.
• Supporting the maintenance of fibre optic communications networks.
• Contributing to the electrical infrastructure asset management system, including documentation and drawing management. 
• Providing first-level servicing support for marine navigational aids.
• Participating in the call-out roster.
• Working closely with contractors, suppliers and internal teams to deliver safe, timely and quality outcomes.
• Contributing to a strong health, safety and continuous improvement culture. 

About you

You’ll be a practical, safety-focused electrician who enjoys working in an industrial environment where no two days are the same. You’ll bring a systematic approach to fault finding, strong attention to detail and the ability to work well with others across a busy operational environment.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• A trade qualification and current registration as an electrician.
• At least five years’ experience in the electrical field, preferably within a 400V LV distribution or industrial environment.
• Strong industrial fault-finding, breakdown response and preventative maintenance experience.
• A sound understanding of electrical safety practices and health and safety requirements.
• Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• Comfortable working at height.
• An understanding of fibre optic communications networks would be an advantage.
