Meet the people at the heart of our business.
What better way to explore the opportunity that comes from being part of the port, than by hearing from the people who make us what we are?

Sasha Ruwhiu is proud to be part of the Napier Port team and is passionate about the work she does every day. After relocating from the Bay of Islands, she joined Napier Port as a casual cruise team member before progressing into a full-time role in the access customer service team.
In her role, Sasha helps keep people safe and secure, supports visiting vessel crews, and ensures everyone entering and moving around the Port has the correct access and permissions. She plays an important part in maintaining a safe environment for all.
What Sasha enjoys most is the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. She values the connections she makes, the diverse range of people she interacts with, and the knowledge she continues to gain through her work. For Sasha, Napier Port is a place where opportunities are open to everyone with plenty of pathways to learn, grow, and build a rewarding career.
For Trevor, working at Napier Port is about more than just driving trucks, it’s about being part of a supportive team. He values the strong culture, friendly people, and the opportunity to connect with a wide range of colleagues through his role.
As a truck driver, Trevor transports containers between Thames Street yards and Napier Port, playing an important role in keeping containers moving efficiently. He’s also been involved in the exciting introduction of autonomous trucks, taking part in training and trials as the Port embraces new technology.
He enjoys learning, sharing knowledge with others, and is proud to be part of a team helping shape the future of Napier Port.
For Jay, working at Napier Port combines two things he’s always been passionate about: the environment and the outdoors. In his role, no two days are the same. While much of his work focuses on environmental compliance, he also responds to unexpected situations, from spills to wildlife interactions, helping ensure the Port operates safely and sustainably.
Jay also supports the Port’s penguin sanctuary and monitoring the local penguin population, alongside other important environmental initiatives. He is passionate about protecting the environment and values that this is a priority to the Port.
He also appreciates the people and culture at Napier Port. Stepping into a leadership role while his manager was on parental leave gave him the opportunity to work more closely with teams across the business and build strong connections. From environmental projects to community volunteering opportunities, Napier Port is a place where people can make a difference.
With more than 25 years in the shipping industry, Kingsley has seen the world, but for him, the best part of the job has always been the people. As Napier Port’s Business Improvement Manager, he works closely with teams across the business to find better ways of working, helping make every day processes safer, smarter, and more efficient.
From his very first days at the Port, Kingsley made it a priority to get to know the people behind the operations, spending time with frontline teams to understand their challenges and identify opportunities for improvement. He believes these employees are the heart of the business and values the insight they bring.
What stands out most to him about Napier Port is the culture. He describes the people as humble, open, and easy to work with, creating an environment where collaboration and positive change are welcomed. Excited by the Port’s future and the opportunities ahead, Kingsley is proud to be part of a team that helps connect Hawke’s Bay to the world while continuing to innovate and grow together.
