MTG Hawke’s Bay

MTG Hawke’s Bay is a museum, theatre and art gallery that brings our region’s history to life through collections and exhibits. Located on Napier’s waterfront, the MTG is a popular destination for our cruise passengers when they call here during the summer season.

We’re proud to support the MTG and the role it plays in our local community. We’ve put our name to the Napier Port Education Suite, which provides a range of educational programmes, including two courses on the port and our role as a trade hub.

Our Place: Napier Port is designed for Year 4 – 8 primary school students, and aligned to the social sciences and drama curriculum. Students learn about the activities and fledging community of the early Port Ahuriri, researching the roles of port workers from the past. Then they bring their port worker character to life, in a dramatised retelling of an historical incident.

Economics study: Napier Port is for Year 11 students learning about the interdependence of sectors in the New Zealand economy. Students hear about the port’s history, then take a field trip up Bluff Hill, to observe the port in action. This contributes to an assessment task for Level 1 Economics.
