Recent and continuing fuel price increases have added to the cost of doing business for many New Zealand companies, and unfortunately Napier Port is no exception. The price of diesel has now increased to the point where it can no longer be absorbed into our current operations.
To recognize this increase in the cost of diesel, from 1 May 2022 we are adding a Fuel Adjustment Factor (FAF) to our marine and container terminal service charges. The FAF will be invoiced directly to the shipping line for container vessel calls or to the vessel agent for all other vessel calls.
The FAF will be levied in two parts:
$1379.95 per vessel port call covering arrival and departure, to recover diesel costs for tugs and the pilot launch, and
$10.24 per TEU, to recover diesel costs for cranes, top lifters, generators and other diesel usage on port.
The FAF will be updated monthly, in arrears, based on actual monthly fuel price movements (compared with average fuel costs from FY2021).
Details of the monthly FAF will be available in the Fees and Charges section of our website, updated monthly for any fluctuation of the FAF, be it a reduction or increase.
