Napier Port Operations Status Update: Port to resume import pick-up from 1400 today
Kia ora,
Napier Port is still without mains power and currently has limited telecommunications connectivity. On-port generation facilities continue to power critical infrastructure.
We are working hard to progress the safe recommencement of port operations.
Port open for restricted R&D in the Container Terminal
As a first step we are able to confirm that the port will open up for IMPORT FULL CONTAINER PICK-UP ONLY, FROM 1400 TODAY. Until mains power is resumed, we are only able to safely operate during daytime hours. Therefore, we will close the Western Gate to Import Full Container Pick-up at 1730 this afternoon and reopen again tomorrow from 0700 – 1730.
Also, we will be accepting EXPORT DRIES starting from 0700 -1730 tomorrow Friday 17 February. Thames Street Depot 2 will be open for the return of empty containers from 0700 – 1730 tomorrow as well. Thames 1 will remain closed.
WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING EXPORT REEFERS AT THIS STAGE.
A further operational assessment is scheduled for 0800 in the morning.
Supply Chain Update
After a safety assessment, the Clive River road bridge reopened last night connecting Napier back up to Hastings. Please contact Napier Port’s logistics team via email: supplychain@napierport.co.nz or contact our team – Matt Gittings: 027 263 1902 or Nicolas Ganivet: 027 213 7278, for help to organise transport to your site. Please note, our mobile coverage is not robust but we do have internet connection, therefore you may need to try both email and mobile. We have been advised that there is a weight limit on this road bridge – please check with NZTA for the most up to date restrictions.
We have also been advised that the Hawke’s Bay Expressway will likely reopen tomorrow to essential travel as floodwaters recede and debris is cleared.
Tenant Access
As of yesterday, we have provided tenants with access to the port in order to enter and assess their facilities. Vehicle and truck access is available via the Western Gate only. Port Security will have an security officer based at the electronic gate to assist with access between 0800 and 1700 Monday to Friday.
Shipping Operations Update
Our marine team are heading out to sea today to assess the port’s sea infrastructure and start surveying the port’s shipping channel.
Lifeline Utility
The NZ Army is now set up at Napier Port and assisting with the region’s response.
Reopening Assessment
Napier Port will continue make operation assessments each morning at 0800 and will update accordingly.
Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.
Ngā mihi,
David Kriel

Sustainability aligned with global goals:
At the United Nations summit meeting in September 2015, world leaders adopted 17 global goals (and 169 targets) as a set of universal goals that aim to address the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges facing our world. These are known as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
