6 Wharf

Napier Port is building a new wharf to support growth for our customers and our economy.

6 Wharf will future-proof our port, allow us to handle more and larger ships, and improve operational performance.

Over the past 10 years* we have experienced solid growth in container volumes and bulk cargo exports. We’ve also seen growth in the number of cruise ships visiting our shores. We need to build 6 Wharf to support this growth.

50% more containers

94% more cruise ships

64% more bulk cargo

HEB Construction will start building the wharf in early 2020

We have appointed a main contractor, HEB Construction, to build the multi-purpose wharf. HEB is scheduled to start during the first quarter of 2020 (calendar year) and are currently undertaking preliminary work to establish the construction site, and ordering and delivering materials. Building sustainably and in partnership

We’re dedicated to ensuring the project is the best it can be for our economy, community and environment.

Our work is being guided by best practice management plans and we’re working in partnership with stakeholders,  including mana whenua and the fisheries community,  to protect cultural, recreational and environmental values.
