A container donated to the Te Taitimu Trust was put to use for the first time last week, travelling out to the Waipapa-a-Iwi Marae on the East Coast.
It was packed with gear destined for the 11th Te Taitimu Trust Big Camp, which aims to foster leadership and support positive change among at-risk youth in Hawke’s Bay.
Around 70 rangitahi, primarily Ngati Pahauwera, attended the camp, where they learned water safety, rafting and kapa haka skills alongside sporting and artistic endeavours.
Te Taitimu Trust was founded by Zack Makoare, and he says it’s all about supporting rangitahi to realise their potential and enabling their aspirations for a better future.
The container was funded through a partnership between Napier Port and Unison. It was painted for free by the Specialised Group, a group of companies that provides container support services to shipping lines.
