Our Marine Manager, Robbie Jensen, and Pilot, Robin Weary, recently travelled to CSMART in the Netherlands to take part in an international trial looking at the future of digital navigation.
The trial brought together ports, marine pilots, hydrographic organisations and technology providers from around the world to test new navigation technology using realistic scenarios based on four ports – Napier, Rotterdam, Melbourne and Southampton.
Napier’s scenario focused on some of the challenges our marine team manages when bringing cruise ships into port, including long-period swell, strong winds and under-keel clearance.
By sharing their local knowledge and experience, Robbie and Robin helped test how better real-time information could support safer and more efficient navigation. A great effort representing Napier Port and sharing their expertise as part of this international collaboration!
