Port User Advisory: Update – Port Reopening and Access Arrangements

Further to our previous advisory (available here), conditions are continuing to be monitored as Cyclone Vaianu moves through the region. Ongoing swell and wind conditions mean the port will remain closed until the gate opening times outlined below.

The Western Gate will reopen at 7:15am Monday (standard operating hours) for all port access.

The Thames Street Empty Container Depots will also open at 7:15am Monday.

The Eastern Gate will reopen from 8:00am Monday for normal port access, once our Security team has relocated back to the Eastern gatehouse.

Please note there is currently an NZTA road closure (as advised here) on Breakwater Road (SH50) between the Western and Eastern Gates due to the risk of rockfall. This closure is expected to remain in place until at least 8:00am Monday, pending an engineer assessment. Gate entrances will remain accessible as per the hours above. If Breakwater Road remains closed beyond 8:00am, log trucks will be able to continue to access the port via the Western Gate (subject to wind conditions).

Shipping operations are currently planned to resume from midday Monday, subject to a marine survey to confirm berth and channel conditions, including checks on any infill following the weather event.
