Following this morning’s shipping and operational communication (available here), we are providing a further weather update now. Current forecasts are indicating the heavy swell event and high winds will continue throughout the morning. Therefore, in the interests of safety, the port will need to close its gates for a period of time.
Port Closure Information
Eastern Gate
As previously communicated, the Eastern Gate will be closed from 1700 today (Monday 13 February). This entrance will now remain closed until 1200 midday tomorrow (Tuesday 14 February).
Container Terminal and Thames Street Depots
The Container Terminal and Western Gate are currently closed due to high winds. If conditions change, these may reopen through until 1800 tonight.
Thames Street Depots 1 and 2 are currently open (wind impacts are different across different sites) and will remain open until 1800 tonight, unless conditions change.
The Container Terminal, Western Gate and Thames Street Depots will remain closed from 1800 tonight until 1200 midday tomorrow (Tuesday 14 February).
Reopening Assessment
Napier Port will be making a further operational assessment tomorrow morning about the reopening times for each port site above and will update you accordingly.
